Gunung Rinjani Mountain is Indonesia’s 2nd highest volcanic mountain with 3,725 M height. A trek to the summit is one of the most challenging experiences you can have in Indonesia and definitely worth it.

To start Rinjani trekking, you need to keep a few points in mind.

  • Hire professionals: Hire a professional trekking planner like Rinjani Tours to help you plan and trek through your tour without any difficulty.
  • Physical Challenge: First and foremost, you cannot, just cannot go to the Rinjani Trek by getting off your couch. You need to be in a good physical shape so that you are able to walk on tough mountainous terrain for 5- 7 hours a day.
  • Weather Condition: Mount Rinjani can experience lightening, gale and windstorms any time of the year. Keep an eye out for weather forecast and prepare accordingly.
  • Equipment: The camping equipment has to be sturdy and you need to have windproof clothing as well. Check with the guides for complete list of things you may need.
  • Fauna: When you go out to see nature, nature will also see you. Beware the insects and leeches that you might find in rainy season. Have some ointments and medical supplies handy.
  • Volcanic hazard: Although Mount Rinjani has never erupted, there are lakes that are active volcanoes. Checking for volcanic update might be useful before starting the trek.

How to prepare?

  • Keep doing exercises, walk and light work out to keep yourself fit
  • It is better to arrive a day before in Senaru or Sembalun, to get familiar with the surrounding and weather.
